Looped digital video,
5.50 minutes duration, 2005
Projected onto the wall of a former fish yard, King St, Norwich.
Commissioned by Norwich City Council and Commissions East as
part of Contemporary Art Norwich ’05.
The work is based on research of the export of worsted cloth,
historically one of the staple trades of the region, and the
import of spices. It focuses on use of the river behind King
St., Norwich, to transport the goods, acting as a channel along
which cultural exchange flowed. The etched patterns are taken
from Norwich textile designs of the 15th to 19th centuries.
